Project Child

CHILD boosts instruction in reading, writing, and mathematics.  The unique design enables teachers to offer varied learning activities to teach, reinforce, and extend learning objectives.

Three teachers form a CHILD cluster – primary (K-2) or intermediate (3-5).  CHILD students stay in their cluster for three years. Each teacher in the cluster picks a subject to intensify – reading, writing, or mathematics.  Each cluster classroom offers six learning stations focusing on the given subject.

Students spend at least one hour per day in each of the cluster classrooms.  After direct instruction from the teacher, students work at the stations to practice and apply the lesson objectives. The CHILD learning stations enable students to use a variety of learning modalities.

Computers are fully integrated into classroom instruction.  Each classroom at South Heights has 4-6 computers in the computer station.  CHILD students learn collaboration and cooperation, as well as goal setting and reflection on their progress.

South Heights is a National Demonstration Site
